The Sisters of Mercy have been serving the Folsom community for over 30 years now. To celebrate motherhood and our anniversary, we invited women who have given birth at our hospital to share their story of "The Big Day."
Thank you to everyone who submitted stories and to Style Magazines and Asante Day Spa for providing the pampering prizes for all of our winners.
The variety of stories we received ranged from fun and light-hearted, to truly inspirational and heart-warming. Click on the photos to read each of the full winning stories and share in some of the special moments women like you have shared.

Our son Braden was not due until January, but I kept telling people I wanted him here in time for Christmas. Well, my little guy was listening because he came the week before Christmas after only one hour of labor! The nurses at Mercy Folsom were so incredible; I had the best experience ever having my third child at Mercy. ~ Sarah

"Can we go to the zoo today, Mommy?" asked my daughter Emma. The sun was beaming through the slats in the blinds and the day seemed ripe with possibility, but that morning the zoo would have to wait. Mercy angels were watching over us all. A year later, we finally made that family trip to the zoo! ~ Julie |

I had five weeks to go until my daughter Alyssa's arrival - or so I thought. I couldn't have my child on Friday the 13th - it was bad luck, but my nurses assured me that it was the right choice. Mercy Folsom saved our daughter's life that day and we are forever grateful. ~ Melissa |

When my water broke at 35 weeks, my husband and I were shocked. We shouldn't have been after a long battle with infertility, plus kidney stones at 27 weeks. Nothing was going according to our plan. But God's plan was greater for us. ~ Heather |

I had both my son and my daughter at Mercy Folsom and I can't say enough great things about the entire staff. Both experiences were wonderful. When my doctor came into my room after the birth of my daughter, she asked what I’d named my baby. I told her, "Kate." She laughed. Kate… In room 8... Born on 8/8/08... I smiled and said, "Should I spell her name K-E-I-G-H-T?" ~ Karalee |

Angela was born via emergency c-section by Dr. Ruth Haskins on Christmas Eve 2002. Her birth was not planned for that day and we were quite scared. The nurses and doctors were fantastic and worked so hard to calm us and make sure we were happy and comfortable. We never have forgotten how kind everyone was at Mercy Folsom. ~ Megan |

One memory I have about Mercy Folsom that makes me laugh was the birth of my fourth child and how Mercy Folsom hid me from all visitors - including my own family! My husband overheard the security guards asking the nurse who the VIP in my room was. The nurse laughed and said that I was just a mom who didn't want visitors. Wow - did I feel like a special celebrity! ~ Aggie |
