In November 2009 I went to Mercy Folsom for an ordered stress test. I had five weeks to go until my daughter Alyssa's arrival - or so I thought. After the test, I learned that I had severe pre-eclampsia and that my daughter would be born that day for her safety. The Labor & Delivery nurses truly made a difference that day for I was a wreck. "It's too early," I kept thinking AND it was Friday the 13th! I couldn't have my child on Friday the 13th - that would be bad luck, wouldn't it?
My nurses assured me that it was the right choice and that Friday the 13th would take on a whole new meaning for me shortly since within the hour I would be meeting my daughter via c-section.
Alyssa was born at 3 lbs 13 oz with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot which would require open heart surgery the first year of her life. Mercy Folsom saved our daughter's life that day and we are forever grateful.
