Community partnership
Funding for the new emergency department was a true community and city effort. Hundreds of individuals and businesses have a stake in the project. Through their generous contributions, the Mercy Folsom Community Council raised over $5 million to fill the gap in available funds needed by the nonprofit hospital, ensuring that the project would proceed as planned. Fundraising efforts kicked off five years ago when William Cummings surprised his wife, Claudia, on Christmas by making a $2 million pledge to the project. As a result of this lead gift, the new department bears the name, “Cummings Emergency Pavilion.”
In December 2005, the City of Folsom helped push the campaign to the finish line with a $1 million contribution, recognizing the critical need in the community for added infrastructure to improve access to emergency care, and the overall economic benefit that a full-service acute care hospital adds to the vitality of the community.
